HISTORY
In terms of race wins, 'DC' is the second most successful driver on the grid this year and the second most experienced in terms of race starts. While we're on the subject of 'seconds', it's clear that joining Red Bull Racing in 2005 has given David his second wind.
When the Scotsman left his previous team, the F1 rumour mill came up with all sorts of suggestions as to what career David might now pursue, including an 'ambassador' for his old team or a commentator on British TV. But David and Red Bull had different ideas and the winner of 13 grand prix proved them all wrong with an excellent 2005 season. During what was otherwise a tough 2006, the Scotsman shone on the streets of Monaco, where he donned Superman's cape to stand on the podium in third place. Having been with Red Bull Racing since Day One, David is now very much part of the fabric of the team, with a contribution that goes beyond mere cockpit time.
This is David's fifthteenth Formula One season and it's a sign of his worth that Red Bull Racing is only his third home in all that time, having spent his first two years with Williams, followed by a loyal nine year's service for McLaren. In terms of points scored, he is the leading British driver in the history of the sport.
All Coulthard's F1 wins have come in cars designed by Adrian Newey and he was instrumental in getting the designer to join Red Bull Racing. Therefore, finally getting to drive another Newey-penned car this year was something David looked forward to for some time.
